Loneliness did not destroy me. It forced me to meet myself.

23.08.2026

There are things we speak about very easily once they have passed.

We say we were strong. That we learned. That everything happened for a reason. That life made us better.

But in the middle of the pain, you do not think that way.

In the middle of the pain you ask why.

I have known loneliness in many forms.

Not only the loneliness of having no one beside you. Sometimes that is the simplest kind.

There is a far heavier loneliness: the one in which you are surrounded by people and feel that no one truly sees what is happening inside you.

“Perhaps you are not worth as much as you thought.”

And if you hear that message for long enough, there is a risk you will begin saying it to yourself.

That is where the real fight begins.

At a certain point you are no longer fighting people. You are fighting the voice they left inside you.

It took me time to understand that.

For a long while I believed I had to prove myself.

And to a certain extent that energy pushed me forward. Pain can be an extraordinary fuel.

The problem is that you cannot drive your whole life on a tank filled from your wounds.

At some point you grow tired.

Because success achieved only to prove something to others does not free you from them. On the contrary. It means that, in a strange way, they are still running your life.

So I had to learn something harder: to build not against those who rejected me, but for the person I want to become.

That is where something fundamental changed in me.

I understood that other people's abandonment must not become my abandonment of myself

This is probably one of the most important lessons I have learned.

People can leave.

People can change their minds.

People can disappoint you.

Some will love you only for as long as you are useful to them. Others only while you are a particular version of yourself. Others will project onto you their own frustrations, limits or helplessness.

You cannot control that.

But there is one form of abandonment you do control: the moment when, because someone did not choose you, you stop choosing yourself.

The moment you begin to make yourself smaller.

To feel ashamed of yourself.

To deny your own qualities.

To believe that one person not loving you tells the truth about how much you deserve to be loved.

I did that too.

Until I understood that my worth cannot be put to a vote by the people around me.

It is not a popularity contest.

You are not without worth because someone does not understand you.

You are not without worth because someone rejects you.

And success does not create your worth either.

Success can only make more visible something you had to learn to see in yourself before the world confirmed it.

Betrayal taught me discernment

I have been betrayed.

And I believe one of the most painful parts of betrayal is not what the other person does.

It is the question that comes afterwards: “How did I not see it?”

You begin to judge yourself.

How could I have trusted?

How could I have loved?

How could I have believed?

Today I see things differently.

I do not want to turn my capacity to love into a flaw simply because someone did not know what to do with it.

I do not want to turn trust into cynicism.

But nor do I still confuse love with an absence of limits.

That is what betrayal taught me.

To love, but to observe.

To give, but to discern.

To have a heart without abandoning my mind.

To understand that forgiveness and access to my life are two different things.

You can forgive someone and, at the same time, not hand them the key to the same door they came through when they hurt you.

Rejection taught me to stop asking others for permission to exist

I have been rejected too.

And it hurts.

Especially when the rejection touches exactly the place where you already doubted yourself.

But there is something I came to understand in time: not every place you were not welcomed was a place you were meant to stay.

Sometimes we read a closed door as a verdict on our own worth.

Perhaps it is only a door.

That is all.

Not every person has to like you.

Not every community has to accept you.

Not every relationship has to work.

Not every idea you have will be understood immediately.

And perhaps one of the greatest forms of freedom is no longer needing the entire world to agree with your existence in order to have the courage to exist.

And yes, I got things wrong

This is the part people least like to talk about when they tell their story.

It is very easy to speak about the people who hurt you.

It is much harder to speak about the moments when you hurt yourself.

I made wrong decisions.

I trusted where perhaps I should not have.

I reacted out of pride. Out of fear. Out of need.

Sometimes I wanted results too quickly.

Sometimes I did not listen to what, deep down, I already knew.

Sometimes I confused desire with reality.

Sometimes I was simply wrong.

And I am sure I will be wrong again.

Because maturity does not mean becoming someone who no longer makes mistakes.

It means becoming someone who no longer needs to lie in order to protect their image when they do.

Today I try to look at my mistakes differently.

Not as proof that I am incapable.

But as information.

There are people who make the same mistake for twenty years, and there are people who can turn a single mistake into a change of direction.

I want to belong to the second kind.

How did I keep my spirit strong?

I do not believe a strong spirit means never falling.

I have fallen many times.

It means not turning the place where you fell into your permanent address.

There were periods when I could not see clearly what was coming.

Moments when life looked nothing like what I had imagined.

Moments when I felt alone, wronged, disappointed or misunderstood.

But somewhere in me there always remained a part that said: “There is still something to build.”

And I built.

I learned. I read. I studied people. I tried to understand myself.

I turned my experiences into ideas.

Ideas into work.

Work into projects.

Projects into people I can help.

And today there are people who listen to me, who read what I write, who come towards me, who follow my work — and for whom some of the things I went through become answers for their own lives.

For me, that is one of the most beautiful forms of transformation.

What wounded you is no longer only a wound. It becomes a resource.

Influence did not cure the loneliness

It is important to say this as well.

You can become known.

You can be successful.

You can have people who follow you.

You can have money, projects, results, appearances, validation.

And you can still carry inside you a part that feels alone.

That is how I came to understand that outer influence cannot replace the inner relationship with yourself.

Success is beautiful.

Recognition is beautiful.

Knowing that your work reaches people is extraordinary.

But if every evening you need the world to confirm who you are, you have built a very elegant prison.

For me, real achievement began the moment success stopped being the only argument for my own worth.

I do not have to win every day in order to deserve to exist.

I do not have to be admired by everyone.

I do not always have to be right.

I do not have to be perfect.

I have to be able to stay beside myself even on the days when I do not much like who I was.

Perhaps this is the truth about loneliness

For years we try to escape it.

We fill our time. Our relationships. Our phone. Our diary. Our home. Our life.

Anything, so as not to be left alone with ourselves.

But sometimes loneliness forces you into the meeting you have postponed the longest: the meeting with yourself.

Who are you without applause?

Who are you when someone leaves?

Who are you when you lose?

Who are you when you are wrong?

Who are you when nobody chooses you?

Can you choose yourself?

I believe this is where one of the most important transformations of my life took place.

I stopped waiting for the world to give me what, above all, I had to learn to give myself.

If you are going through a period now in which you feel alone…

I am not going to tell you that “everything happens for a reason”.

Sometimes we do not know the reason.

Sometimes life simply hurts.

But I will tell you something I learned from my own experience: do not take a hard period of your life and turn it into a definition of your life.

Do not take one person's rejection and turn it into a definition of yourself.

Do not take someone's betrayal and turn it into your inability ever to trust again.

Do not take a mistake and turn it into an identity.

Do not take today's loneliness and assume it describes your whole future.

Life can change enormously. And you can change enormously.

I am the proof, at least to myself, that a person can take things that almost made them doubt their own worth and turn them into strength, work, clarity and meaning.

Not because the past disappears.

But because at some point the past stops being the one in charge.

And if today I had to say something to the version of me that felt abandoned, rejected, betrayed or worthless, I would probably say only this:

Do not try to convince everyone that you deserve to be chosen.

Build your relationship with yourself so deeply that when someone does not choose you, it hurts — but it no longer destroys you.

Because there is an enormous difference between being alone and abandoning yourself.

I have been alone.

I have been hurt.

I have been wrong.

I have lost people.

I have lost versions of myself.

I have started again.

But I do not want to build my identity out of the things that happened to me.

I would rather build it out of what I did with them.

And perhaps that is, in fact, one of the greatest victories of my life:

after everything that happened, I did not become smaller. I became more aware.

More attentive.

Harder to manipulate.

More selective.

More responsible for my own choices.

And, at the same time, still alive enough to love, to believe, to build and to dream.

That, for me, is what it means to keep your spirit.

Now you know my awareness. Did you truly feel the connection between the experiences I have lived? If so, then do not forget: we are united in awareness, and still ourselves.
